Description
Grade A green jade pendant with intense brilliant green hue and excellent lustre and translucency.
Its carving is extremely delicate, depicting a magpie resting on the top of a blossoming plum tree. Since the first syllable of magpie (喜鹊) means joy, magpies in Chinese culture symbolize good fortune and happiness. The plum tree is called 梅 méi, which is homonymous to the word 眉 méi, “eyebrow”. Thus, 喜上梅 xĭshàngméi, “magpie on plum tree” is homonymous to the good wish 喜上眉梢 xĭshàngméi(shāo), “happiness to the top of your eyebrows!”. This jade carving thus symbolises happy events and all smiles for the wearer.
We offer free certification for this jadeite pendant, certified by Nan Yang Gemological Institute (http://www.ngi.com.sg/), a reputable and independent Singapore gem testing lab.
Jadeite is highly demanded and is exclusively sourced from Myanmar, formerly Burma, hence it is widely known as “Burmese Jade”. It is rich in heritage and widely believed to have spiritual meanings in the Chinese culture. Jade is believed to protect the person who wears it.
